JUNIOR TENNIS PLAYERS START THEIR CAREER IN TAMWORTH
125 young tennis players from the north west braved the heat at Tamworth’s Treloar Park yesterday for round one of the Junior Development Series.
Victories were spread out, with age group winners coming from the host club, Armidale, Inverell, Moree and Gunnedah.
“There’s professional Academies running in most towns within the region, which is great. Tennis numbers from a junior base have really grown over the last couple of years in all of those towns. So the future’s really bright.”
For many, it marked their first competitive tournament.
20 from the North West Tennis Academy made their debut, and their coach believes they’ll be stronger for the experience when Gunnedah hosts the second round in two weeks.
“They’re playing against people they’ve never met, or seen, before. When they come up against someone who’s an exceptional tennis player, it really gives them a good indication of where they’re at and they learn a lot from those matches.”
