NSW GOVERNMENT REJECTS WATERMARK MINE BUY BACK RUMOURS
The state government has rejected rumours that the Chinese company behind the controversial Watermark coal mine in the North West wants its exploration licence bought back.
It follows a tweet from former independent New England MP Tony Windsor this week, which said there was a “very strong rumour” that mine proponent Shenua had asked the government to buy back its licence for the proposed Liverpool Plains mine.
A spokesperson for Resources Minister Anthony Roberts denied the claims, saying the government “has not sought to buy back Shenhua’s exploration licence or been asked to buy back the exploration licence by the company”.
