GUYRA SHIRE COUNCIL URGES BUSINESSES TO SHUT FOR INQUIRY
Guyra Shire Council is urging business to shut down for several hours on Thursday so workers can attend a public inquiry regarding the proposed merger with Armidale Dumaresq Council.
Council has taken the lead by opting to close for the morning, so its staff can attend.
The meeting will be held at Guyra Bowling Club from nine until midday.
Meanwhile, Armidale Dumaresq Council is writing to the New South Wales Local Government Minister to request a four council merger.
It believes merging with Guyra, Walcha AND Uralla would better strengthen the New England region.
Public meetings will also be held in Armidale on Thursday afternoon.
