A family holiday on the mid north coast has ended in tragedy, with a father of two drowning while trying to rescue his son this afternoon.
Surf Life Saving New South Wales says the man, aged in his 50s, died while attempting to retrieve his son from a rip at Boomerang Beach, near Forster.
Members of the public commenced CPR, but were unable to revive the man.
