RAAF WILLIAMTOWN TO START TRAINING NEXT WEEK

RAAF Base Williamtown has announced it will start training from Monday over the Salt Ash Air Weapons Range, with Hawk Lead-In Fighter aircraft.

Defence says some Port Stephens residents, including those living at East Medowie, Salt Ash and Lemon Tree Passage can expect the range to be used consistently over the coming months.

Number 76 squadron Hawks will train from February 1 to 26 on week days only, while Hornets from the Number Two Operational Conversion Unit will fly from February 29 to March 2.

Fast jet aircraft are scheduled to use the range in May.

Commander Air Combat Group, Air Commodore Steve Roberton, says the range was used 51 out of its 115 permitted days last year, and that every effort was made to minimise any inconvenience to residents during this training.
