$10,000 FINE FOR TAMWORTH TRANSPORT COMPANY AFTER ACID LEAK
A Tamworth-based transport company has been fined $10,000 by the EPA for failing to transport dangerous goods safely.
EPA officers attended a road-side site at Rix’s Creek, on the New England Highway on September 1, following a call from a member of the public.
They discovered a shipping container with four partly empty drums of sulphuric acid. One drum was damaged and was beginning to leak.
EPA officers worked with Fire & Rescue and Roads and Maritime Services to contain the leak. There were no impacts on the surrounding environment.
Investigations confirmed Cary’s Freightlines was responsible for loading the drums of sulphuric acid at its depot in Wetherill Park.
