KATE WASHINGTON PROMOTED TO NSW FRONT BENCH
Member for Port Stephens, Kate Washington, has been promoted to the role of Shadow Minister for the Hunter, following the resignation of Charlestown MP, Jodie Harrison, from the cabinet.
Ms Washington joins the New South Wales Labor front bench immediately, with the additional portfolios of Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Education, Shadow Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
Opposition Leader, Luke Foley, made the announcement while in Newcastle today, and said Ms Washington has made an impressive start to her career.
“I look forward to Kate playing an increased role in policy development and holding the Baird Government to account as a Shadow Minister”, he said.
Kate Washington says she’s looking forward to pushing the Hunter’s agenda in parliament.
“I am immensely proud of our region. With the right policy agenda and passion for the Hunter, the opportunities are endless”.
The appointment follows the resignation of Jodie Harrison, who made the decision to step down from Shadow Cabinet to focus on the health of an ill family member.
However Luke Foley hinted at future promotions for the MP and Lake Macquarie Mayor.
“There will be more opportunities for Jodie to hold senior roles in the future”.
