BODY OF MISSING PORT STEPHENS SAILOR BELIEVED TO BE RECOVERED

Police believe they’ve found the body of a sailor, swept off a yacht near Port Stephens last week.

Mal Lennon was knocked into the water by a large wave during wild weather on January 6.

Police, Marine Rescue, paramedics, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, and local volunteers were all involved in a search that lasted four days.

But at about 7:30 this morning, the crew of a recreational vessel saw a body floating off Port Stephens Head.

The Marine Area Command were notified and recovered the body of a man.

He is yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be the missing 62-year-old sailor.
