BOM: MORE HEAVY RAIN AND FLASH FLOODING FOR NEWCASTLE

The Bureau of Meteorology says further heavy rain and associated flash flooding to eastern parts of the Hunter are expected throughout this morning, due to the slow moving low pressure system near Port Stephens.

The low is expected to move slowly to the northeast during this afternoon, with the heavy rain extending to southern parts of the Mid North Coast, before easing later in the day.

At 4am, several stations across Newcastle reported 80 to 100mm of rainfall during the past six hours.

The Bureau is also warning of further dangerous flash flooding in the area this morning.

Damaging winds of around 60 to 65-kilometres per hour, with gusts of about 90 kilometres, are also forecast along the coastal fringe of the Hunter this morning and Mid North Coast this afternoon.
