NEWCASTLE BEACHES CLOSE AFTER SHARK SIGHTING

The sighting of a large shark led to the closure of several Newcastle beaches this afternoon.

The two-to-three metre predator was spotted off Nobbys around midday.

The alert was raised, and Nobbys, Stockton and Newcastle beaches were closed as a precaution.

Lifeguards carried out a jetski search, but nothing more was spotted, with current sea conditions causing murky water.
