It’s highly unlikely that there’ll be a show day public holiday in Newcastle next year, with the Regional Show Association saying it doesn’t want one.
It says it’s weighed up the cost of what a day-off for workers would mean to local businesses, and has decided the holiday can’t be justified.
Business groups have welcomed the decision.
Newcastle Council will meet next Tuesday to review its resolution to ask the state government to gazette Friday the 4th of March as a public holiday.
