NEWCASTLE SOCCER TEAM KICKING GOALS FOR REFUGEES

And a group of Afghan refugees is using indoor soccer to connect with Newcastle’s sporting community.
The Afghan United Soccer Team, or AUST, is made up of former interpreters from the strife-torn country, who once worked with Australian soldiers.
“They would play soccer with the Australian troops in the Urozgan province, so they just kind of wanted to refresh those memories and also in a way to get the community together to see eacher”, said spokesperson Abdul Jamily.
The players now live permanently in the Hunter.
