TOORMINA POLICE OPERATION ENDS

A police operation, which saw a Toormina street locked down yesterday afternoon, has ended.

Police surrounded a home on Lowery Street just after 2pm, following reports an armed man was inside.

Nearby school Mary Help of Christians was placed into lockdown, before students and staff were safely evacuated.

Specialist police searched the property at around 7.30 last night, but failed to find anyone inside.

An investigation into the matter is now underway.
