ONE MILE BEACH TO GET SHARK TOWER
A surveillance tower will be built at One Mile Beach at Port Stephens, to alert swimmers to shark sightings.
The Baird Government is spending $13,000 installing towers at four beaches along the state’s coast.
It comes after a 20-year-old surfer was mauled off Ballina, in the state’s 14th shark attack this year.
The Primary Industries Minister says Marine Rescue and Surf Life Saving have also been allocated money for new equipment and evacuation alarms, in an effort to boost beach safety.
