Businesses in Armidale’s Beardy Street Mall no longer need council approval to place tables and racks out the front their shops.
Armidale-Dumaresq Council voted to trial the changes, in a bid to revitalise the shopping precinct.
The trial will run over the busy Christmas period and wrap up at the end of January.
Meanwhile council is also undertaking a review of its Alcohol Free Zones in the area for special events over the coming months.
