HOPE FOR UNWANTED ANIMALS
In the Tamworth region alone, more than 500 dogs and cats are brought into the city’s pound every year.
But now there’s a glimmer of hope for these unwanted animals, with changes to the companion animals act.
From this week, people who purchase a dog or cat from a pound or animal shelter, will be entitled to a 50 per cent discount on their pet’s lifetime registration fees.
“It makes it a lot more feasible for people to come and either adopt and re-home an animal or to reclaim their animal that might be not registered.”
New pet owners will now only have to pay $26 for a lifetime registration.
