HMAS NEWCASTLE SAYS FAREWELL ONE FINAL TIME

The city’s namesake warship, HMAS Newcastle, farewelled the port for the final time today.

Still cutting an imposing figure against the skyline, the frigate exchanged a gun salute with Fort Scratchley.

It was the closing chapter in a week-long visit – and a quarter of a century of close ties with the city.

HMAS Newcastle will be decommissioned in Sydney later this month.
