Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, says he’ll continue to lobby to keep the Australian Defence Force’s Basic Flight Training School in Tamworth.
The promise follows the appointment of Kevin Andrews as the new Defence Minister.
Mr Joyce says he wants to make sure the issue stays on the agenda.
“There is a lot of homework that we’ve done with David Johnston about keeping BAE in Tamworth and now I have to do that work again with the new minister, Kevin Andrews. I’ve made the Prime Minister fully aware of how important this is to the region.”
In March, the 25-year contract to operate the flight school went out to tender.
