Newcastle and Port Stephens Councils are set for a large windfall, with Newcastle Airport’s ownership formally restructured.
The cash-strapped councils still own 100 per cent of the company, but they can now sell part of their share and be paid dividends.
It also enables the company to borrow money in its own right for future expansion.
