TOWN BEACH RE-OPENS AFTER SHARK SIGHTING
Port Macquarie’s Town Beach re-opened this morning, after a shark sighting prompted its closure around 3:30pm yesterday.
Swimmers were evacuated from the water, after the shark – believed to be a metre and a half long – was spotted about 80 metres off shore.
Lifeguards put the flags back up around 9:30 this morning.
“Unless we have another sighting nearby, we may close again. But at the moment, the beach is open as usual,” Senior Lifeguard James Turnham said.
It comes after a bodyboarder was mauled by a shark at Lighthouse Beach in August.
