The Richmond Tweed SES is warning the public to be prepared for very heavy rain and damaging surf over the weekend.
At this stage, up to 120 millimetres of rain is predicted to fall around the Lismore and Ballina areas over the next 24 hours.
Motorists are being urged to drive with caution.
Conditions are expected to ease on Sunday.
