  1. Lovely to see some support for the nurses!!! The John Hunter Hospital is the only trauma centre outside of sydney, they have the busiest emergency department in the state and our loved ones deserve the best care in a timely manner. Our mother, daughter, sister, brother, father deserve the BEST healthcare can offer and this can only be achieved by increasing the amount of nurses and mandating minimum nurse-patient ratios!! Victoria has had mandated minimum nurse patient ratios- come on NSW- SAFE PATIENT CARE- NOW!!!!!!!!!!

  2. The staffing situation at the moment is critical.the HNEH are employing undergrads to fill in the shortfalls.the staff mix will be 1 or 2 post 5 year rns in charge of a unit.with eens & ains picking up the balance.ACUTE CARE UNITS are not just a matter of routine surgery, there are multiple co-morbidities to take into consideration with the type of patient we have.the rns will have the total resposibility for the ward they are in.I would like to ask the question.WHO TAKES THE ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY.PRESENT STAFF ARE WORKING beyond the realms of safe practice
