HEAVY SWELLS WREAK HAVOC ON JIMMY’S BEACH

Erosion concerns at Jimmy’s Beach have worsened following recent wild weather.

50 per cent of the sand put on the beach as part of a replenishment scheme has disappeared in heavy swells.

Great Lakes Council maintains the dredging operations are the most appropriate solution to erosion problems in the area.
“It still needs sand re-nourishment to maintain the natural environment and recreation assets so no matter what we do we expect to loose the sand and we will have to keep pumping sand onto the beach,”Great Lakes Council’s Ron Hartley said.

Council will begin work in the next couple of days to restore the sand which has been lost.
