WILLIAMTOWN RAAF BASE TO CLOSE CHILDCARE CENTRE AMID NOISE FEARS

The Williamtown RAAF Base will close its onsite childcare centre, following fears excessive aircraft noise may be affecting the health of children in care.

The move follows extensive noise testing by the Department of Defence since 2014.

While the initial results of the testing were not alarming the department said in a statement that “it is prudent to advise the early findings and to take appropriate action as soon as reasonably practicable”.

Defence intends to close affected centres, including those in Amberley and Darwin, through a staged transition plan that will allow for alternative care arrangements to be made.

  1. The really big question to be asked is why, oh WHY wasn’t this newly built childcare given proper sound proofing when it was built? Or why isn’t it being retrofitted to bring it up to the appropriate quality??????

This is a backward step in providing proper childcare arrangements for the personnel who work on the base.
