BERKELEY VALE WOMEN’S SIDE STILL CELEBRATING PREMIERSHIP WIN

Berkeley Vale women’s rugby league captain Melanie Sutton says the Panthers’ 32-16 win in the Sydney Women’s second-division is a highlight of her career.

“Six months ago you would’ve looked at our team and said ‘they can’t play football.’ Now we’ve just won a minor and major premiership in the second division of the women’s competition. We’ve come a long way and it’s been amazing.”

Blues representative Isabelle Kelly was named player of the match, bagging five tries.

It’s the first time the Central Coast has fielded a team.

“Everyone has already said they’re coming back and we’ve already had interest from a dozen other girls so we can only grow and get better.”
