POLICE WARN HOLIDAY DRIVERS

New South Wales Police are appealing to drivers to take care as they hit the road for the school holidays.
So far this year 252 people have died on New South Wales roads. That’s 25 more than the same time last year.
They’ve also issued more than 200,000 infringements for speeding and prosecuted more than 19,000 drink drivers.
Of major concern is the number of people being caught with illicit drugs in their system. 6350 have been prosecuted up 3685 on the previous year.
“It is well known to police and road users alike that the risks on our roads are speeding, drink or drug driving, not wearing a seat belt, and being distracted by a mobile phone,” Acting Assistant Commissioner David Driver said.
“Those prosecuted for such offences are the ones putting themselves, their passengers, and other road users at great risk of a serious injury, or fatal crash.
