MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING POLICE AFTER BYRON BAY INCIDENT

Police have been assaulted while trying to arrest a man at Byron Bay.

It’s alleged the officers were trying to arrest a 42-year-old man over a separate assault that occurred moments earlier.

One officer was treated at Byron bay Hospital for treatment to a hand injury.

The man has been charged with two counts of assaulting police, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, resist arrest and affray.

He’ll face Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday.
