Whale experts are asking the public to keep watch for a humpback whale which became trapped in ropes off Port Stephens late last week.
The eight to nine metre juvenile was found tangled in the ropes of a fish trap on Friday, about 1.5 kilometres north of Broughton Island.
Fishermen managed to cut away some of the ropes before nightfall Friday.
Further attempts to locate the whale over the weekend were unsuccessful.
