Three dogs have been removed from a home in Valentine at Lake Macquarie, after one of them bit an 8-year-old girl, causing her to lose most of her right arm.
The girl was bitten on Saturday afternoon, after she put her arm under a fence to pat one of the dogs.
Lake Macquarie Council has confirmed the Alaskan Malamute is being held by an dog welfare group, pending the outcome of an investigation.
Two other dogs of the same breed have been taken from the home and are being cared for by a relative.
She was rushed to John Hunter Hospital for emergency surgery, but doctors were unable to save her arm.
