Traffic along the New England Highway at East Maitland was briefly brought to a standstill today, after a four wheel drive burst into flames.
Thick smoke was seen coming from the vehicle’s engine at around 1pm, before it became engulfed in fire, causing the tyres and windows to explode.
Firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze within minutes, stopping it from spreading to nearby trees.
