Thick smoke was seen billowing from Newcastle’s Kooragang Island this morning from a blaze on Greenleaf Road.
Crews took several hours to extinguish the small fire, at a soy bean processing and storage plant, located on the Impact Fertilisers site.
It’s believed the blaze started in a piece of machinery – there was no structural damage to the building.
Tourle Street was closed for an hour.
