A community group in Port Stephens is celebrating, after finding out this morning that a controversial development application for the area has been withdrawn.
The site, along Fisherman’s Bay Road in Anna Bay, was earmarked for a $12.5 million 22 hectare housing development, by NSW Government developer, Landcom.
The South Tomaree Community Association spent years fighting the proposal, citing fragile ecology in the area, however the Joint Regional Planning Panel approved the construction in February this year.
With the help of a legal team from The University of Newcastle, the group launched successful legal action against the decision in the Land and Environment Court.
We’ll have more on this story tonight at six.
