NBN TOWER IN FLIGHT PATH

There are concerns an National Broadband Network tower, approved by Ballina Council, will impede the airport’s flight path.
Pilots and residents have put together a petition, calling for its location to be changed.
It seems that Ballina Mayor David Wright is too busy chasing sharks as there IS an alternative site which it outside the airport OS but NBN doesn’t choose to use it or have NBN made an offer that the Mayor cannot refuse.
The objections to the NBN tower at Lynwood on the grounds of air safety are nonsense. As has been pointed out on more than one occasion there are already a number of trees in the area that are higher than the proposed tower. Protrusions into the the Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) are found in the flight path of a large number of airports around Australia. In some locations, the ground itself is in breach of the OLS.
The real motivation of the few core people stridently opposed to the tower is the “not in my backyard” factor. The tower will bring many benefits to the local community, the vast majority of which strongly support the erection of the tower.
Please note, if the proposed tower really presented a risk to air safety CASA would advise against it. They have not done so.
