AGL MACQUARIE FINED FOR WATER POLLUTION

Energy company AGL Macquarie has copped a $15,000 fine from the EPA for allegedly breaching its environment protection licence at the Bayswater Power Station.

It’s alleged in February, slurry from the power station’s lime softening plant entered a section of Wisemans Creek, polluting several endangered River Red Gum trees.

It’s understood slurry material travelled around 500 metres down the creek before it was removed.

The site was later remediated through the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.
