CALLINAN INTO QUARTER-FINALS AT US OPEN
Merewether surfer Ryan Callinan is on the way to a season-best result in the World Qualifying Series, after moving into the quarter-finals at the US Open.
Callinan defeated America’s Tim Reyes (RAY-YES) by just under a point overnight, making the most of the inconsistent conditions on offer.
“Callinan coming up with the right answers. Nice flow off the top, driving deep, barely sticking that one but getting just about as critical as you can.”
“I had a shocker and straight away took off on a small one and it did nothing, and I was like, ‘oh wow you really do have to wait for the bigger ones’, so I kind of learnt my lesson and it paid off in the end.”
His chances for world tour qualification are set to receive a major boost – it’s likely he’ll go as high as the top five in the rankings, after this event.
