WORK BEGINS FOR NEW MACKSVILLE BRIDGE

Construction has begun on a long awaited new bridge over the Nambucca River at Macksville, part of the $830 million Warrell Creek to Nambucca Heads Pacific Highway upgrade.

Locals have been calling for a new bridge for years, with the current 85-year-old structure deemed unsafe by motorists and the cause of a traffic bottleneck in town.

The new bridge will be built approximately 1.2 kilometres east of the existing bridge and is expected to be complete by 2017.
