FIVE PARTIES SHOWING INTEREST IN FORMER POST OFFICE ACCORDING TO AWABAKAL LAND COUNCIL
Initially earmarked for an aboriginal cultural centre, the former Newcastle post office could now become an international hotel.
According to the Awabakal Land Council, five investors, including a Chinese company, have shown interest in a joint-venture.
The council won a land claim last year, and estimates refurbishing the derelect building would cost around $20-million.
Meanwhile, a conservation management plan for the current Newcastle Courthouse has been submitted to the state’s heritage office.
Once endorsed, the property will be sold.
