NATIONAL APPROACH TO FREE RANGE EGGS
Following a number of heated debates about what constitutes a free range egg, State and Federal Ministers have agreed to a national approach to egg labelling.
The new definition claims free range eggs would come from laying hens who are “unconfined within a ventilated hen house” and have “access to an outdoor area during in daylight hours in a managed environment”.
It’s hoped the classification will build consumer confidence, and provide clarity for farmers.
