ELDERLY WOMAN IN HOSPITAL FOLLOWING TAREE ROBBERY
A robbery in a Taree carpark yesterday afternoon has left an elderly woman in hospital.
Police say the 86 year old was walking to her car with a cane when a teenager approached her from behind and attempted to snatch her bag, causing her to fall to the ground.
The offender fled the scene on foot.
The elderly victim suffered a dislocated shoulder.
“We don’t think this is related to any other offences it seems like it was a random crime of opportunity but none the less it was still a very cowardly attack and something that we really want to get to the bottom of,” Inspector Christine George from Manning-Great Lakes Police said.
The male offender is described as being 150-160 centimetres tall, wearing denim jeans.
