WWII RELIC LANDS 73 YRS LATER

73 years ago tonight, the sky lit up above Newcastle, as the city came under attack from a Japanese submarine.
Part of that illumination came from so-called star shells, fired by the Japanese to help light up targets.
And a historic relic of that attack recently surfaced.
The flare cannister and parachute were today handed to Fort Scratchley, which traded shots with the Japanese sub.
The family was given the honour of firing the same guns, that defended the city all those years ago.
