MAX DEBNAM CALLS TIME ON HIS REMARKABLE COACHING CAREER

One of the Hunter’s most respected and longest serving coaches has announced his retirement.
52 years after he started with a small group of athletes, Max Debnam completed his final training session this afternoon.
Over the years, he’s seen numerous successes – his first in 1962 when Janet Knee competed at the Commonwealth Games, winning the bronze in women’s long jump.
Overall, Debnam has coached 30 athletes who represented Australia at an international level.
The proud Novacastrian is also the only athletics mentor from our region to have been appointed a national coach.
