WERRIS CREEK MINE NOT AT FAULT FOR WATER LOSS

An independent review of Whitehaven Coal’s Werris Creek mine has found there’s no case to suggest it’s impacting on nearby underground bores.
Earlier this year, a study carried out on behalf of the Caroona Coal Action Group, claimed the mine had partially caused a loss of underground water.
However a follow up report, commissioned by the state government, has since rejected the findings and concluded drought conditions and groundwater extraction for irrigation is to blame.
