The Hunter Medicare Local, GP After Hours Service has secured funding for another 12 months.
Operators of the GP Access service feared it was facing the axe after a recent Federal budget reshuffle, and that its closure would swamp hospital waiting rooms.
However the health department has now advised the program will be funded through the Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network.
