LANDCARE GROUP CHALLENGES SHENHUA OVER KOALAS

The Upper Mooki Landcare group has launched a legal challenge against Shenhua Watermark’s proposed coal mine on the Liverpool Plains regarding its impact on koala populations.
The group has lodged a judicial review case in the state’s Land and Environment Court against the Planning Assessment Commissions decision to approve the project.
Chair of the group Nicki Chirlian says threatened species in the proposed area were not considered and the project will leave at least 262 koalas homeless.
