FIVE CHARGED AS POLICE TARGET FIREARM AND DRUG SYNDICATE
Five men have been charged following a five-month investigation into illegal firearms and drug supply across the Hunter.
Police attached to Strike Force Barsdell executed search warrants in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens, with the most recent carried out yesterday.
Officers allegedly siezed 195-grams of amphetamine, 10-kilograms of cannabis, $250,000 cash and seven firearms.
As a result five men, aged between 24 and 71, have been charged with a string of offences, to face court in May and June.
“We are extremely pleased with this result. Arresting and charging those who engage in the supply of illicit drugs and firearms is a primary priority for our local area command and our investigations into these criminal enterprises will continue,” said Lake Macquarie Superintendant Brett Greentree.
