NARRABRI AIRPORT EXPANSION AND NEW AIR SERVICE ON THE WAY
Narrabri is inching closer to securing flights to and from Sydney as well as a revitalised airport.
Work is about to begin on a $10.5 million expansion of the facility.
The airport will be closed between May and June, and in that time expressions of interest will be sought from airlines.
Mayor Conrad Bolton says three companies have already been in contact.
“We certainly want to make sure that they’re financially stable going into the future and we don’t end up with someone that comes and goes, that’s quite disruptive and there’s a lot of energy that goes into getting an air service in place.”
Council hopes a carrier will be selected by the time the airport upgrade is completed in July.
