The Port Macquarie community is mourning the loss of 17-year-old Hazel Kirkbride, who was killed in a truck collision yesterday.
The year 12 student at Hastings Secondary College has been described as well-liked and popular with her peers.
She was driving along Hastings River Drive with her 23-month-old nephew when her red sedan collided head on with a garbage truck.
The toddler was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital with minor injuries, but Hazel died at the scene.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
