WOMAN CHARGED FOLLOWING CLIMATE CHANGE PROTEST
A woman has been charged after allegedly locking herself onto railway tracks at Sandgate, near Newcastle, in a bid to halt coal trains leaving the port.
Police arrived at the railway line near Mangrove Street at about 7am, where it’s alleged Annette Schneider, a farmer from Monaro, was protesting.
At about 10 o’clock, police say they removed the woman from the tracks, after she refused to leave.
She’s been charged with cause obstruction to railway locomotive and go onto or remain on running lines.
Ms Schneider has been granted conditional bail, to appear at Newcastle Local Court on April 16.
