ADELAIDE ARCHBISHOP CHARGED WITH CONCEALING HUNTER SEX ABUSE

The Catholic Archbishop of Adelaide, Philip Wilson, has been charged with concealing child sex abuse while he was a priest in the Hunter Valley in the 1970s.

The abuse allegedly occurred when he was working with paedophile priest Jim Fletcher at St Joseph’s at East Maitland.

Archbishop Wilson has always denied knowing about the abuse.

Fletcher died of a stroke in prison in 2006.

Abuse survivor Peter Gogarty, who was a victim of Fletcher, has previously called on Archbishop Wilson to apologise.

The 64-year-old is believed to be the highest ranking Catholic in the world to face a charge of this nature.

He’s due to face Newcastle Local Court on April 30.

  1. Thrilled that Phillip Wilson is finally being held accountable. To cover up is to condone . To cover up is to be an accessory of the fact. Charge him. Thanks to Peter Gogarty , a dear friend whom I admire for never giving up . Never being silenced by “The Institution ” the Catholic Church.
