WEATHER: TROPICAL STORMS ARE COMING ASHORE

Cyclone Lam (pronounced ‘Larm’) is hammering Arnhem Land at the moment skirting the coastline as a Category 3 storm dumping hundreds of millimetres of rain.
Lam may reach Cat 4 before completely crossing the coast over the Top End of the Territory.
The Tropical Low in the Coral Sea is now moving towards the QLD coast, still building in strength and likely to become a Category 1 cyclone before crossing QLDs coast somewhere between Gladestone and Harvey Bay.
The big feature of this storm is the large amount of moisture it will bring with it causing heavy flooding rain across the SE corner of QLD.
The low may bounce back out to sea reaching the Tasman and if so may re strengthen into an east coast low.
SE QLD and NE NSW are under threat of strong winds and heavy rain coinciding with the king tides at the end of the week.
Swell will increase for Surfest in Newcastle but winds will remain onshore for now.
